Abalone necklace – rectangle
Abalone is harvested and eaten in many cultures. The swirling color of abalone comes from the inner shell of a sea snail. This snail makes a nacre adding aragonite platelets to it in layers making it harder and more colorful than other types of Mother of Pearl. Blue Sodalite is royal blue mottled with white calcite veins. It forms in sodium rich igneous rocks. It fluoresces bright orange under longwave UV light and faint green under shortwave UV light.
Having pointed this out please don’t panic if your Sodalite doesn’t fluoresce not all Sodalite will because it’s the impurities that are in the stone that causes it so if those are absent or if it has iron then it won’t fluoresce as much or at all.
